The Canadian Centre for Elder Law (CCEL) will provide education and expert help on understanding and navigating the Canadian legal system, including legal issues raised by startups and commercialization. It will also address legal and ethical issues of critical importance when working with older adults, such as informed consent and substitute decision-making.

Financial Advisors and the investment industry are key players in the detecting and reporting of elder financial abuse, and other forms of undue influence or abuse. But as the law stands, these financial planners and investment advisors cannot reach out about their concerns without breaching privacy law.
This dynamic and interactive consultation webinar is part of Vulnerable Investor and Safe Harbour Project by FAIR Canada and the Canadian Centre for Elder Law.
Learn what the legal systems are now, and have your say about how they should be in future! This consultation encourages members of the elder abuse awareness community, older adults, persons with lived experience as well as professionals to tell us your experiences, your concerns and your recommendations.
The project is made possible by a grant from the Law Foundation of Ontario, Access to Justice Fund.

Raising the Profile Project has been designed to identify the impact and challenges of community-based seniors services and make recommendations about innovative ways to ensure long-term capacity of the sector to meet the rising and increasingly complex needs of seniors in BC now and in the future.
Consultation is taking place throughout the province to gain local input and share findings leading into a provincial summit in the fall of 2017.
Guest Speaker, Marcy Cohen, has been involved in social justice issues in both a professional and volunteer capacity. She has worked on issues related to home and community care restructuring, health system innovation, gender equality, and on policies to improve access to government services for disadvantages populations. She has become increasingly interested in health prevention and promotion strategies that support seniors' health and independence.
BC CRN Provincial Learning Events take place the 3rd Tuesday of every month except July, August and December and everyone is welcome.

Presented by:
Giovanna Boniface is an occupational therapist with 20 years of experience, practicing her entire career in BC. She works for the national professional association that represents 16,000 occupational therapists in Canada and 2,400 therapists in BC. In her current role, she is the senior OT adviser for the association and is responsible for professional affairs at the national level.
Giovanna is also a clinical instructor at the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy and is completing her Masters of Rehabilitation Science, researching the development of a new occupational therapy assessment tool. She is also the outgoing president of the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals-Canada Chapter, and a current director for the Canadian Society of Association Executives.
